After getting a big and prominent market share in Japan in early 90s one of the most popular cell phone companies- Sanyo started its race in American market in 98. The start was rather impressive and soon after the company became an innovative developer of various features and became a manufacturer of different innovations to the US market.
Sprint Nextel Corporation- which was the first and exclusive representative of this company in US- had no idea that the brand will become the first distributor of smartphones with a colorful LCD displayed (2001) and a built-in digital camera (2003). Since that the company started gaining more of attention from the professionals and got multiple award for its wireless device.
The first model to appear in US market was SCP-3000. Soon after Canada and UK followed the sample of the US and released few of the models of this company due to the fact that the company produces various smartphones with advanced multimedia features. The most popular Sanyo Phones which appeared in European market were S750 and S750i.
The market share competition affected this brand and the result was that it was merged with Kyocera in 2007 for around $300 000 000. This was just a marketing step and did not affect the production quality and essence. And even the brand name is not going to be changed at least till 2011.
Only recently the company had a rebranding and was renamed into Kyocera Communications (KCI) combining Kyocera Wireless Corp. and Kyocera Sanyo Telecom and moved its main operations to the US headquarters in San Diego.
